In the wake of Jackson Martínez's transfer from Atlético Madrid to Chinese side, Guangzhou, for 42 million euros, details of the Colombian star's contract with the capital club have been revealed. Jackson was pocketing an annual salary of 5 million euros, whilst written into his contractual agreement with 'Los Rojiblancos' was a clause according to which the player would receive 5% of any subsequent transfer fees.

The clause of the contract, as revealed by the whistleblowing platform, 'Football Leaks', reads: "In the event that Atlético Madrid decide to sell the player to another club, and regardless of the transfer fee involved (...) the player is entitled to receive 5% of the transfer fee agreed with the other club".

According to the leaked document, Jackson raked in 6 million euros in his first year, 3.5 million euros of which was paid as a monthly salary, on top of a signing-on bonus of 2.5 million when he joined the club from Porto. 'Atleti' coughed up one million euros five days after the Colombian international striker put pen to paper on the deal, and a further 1.5 million on 31st December 2015. Throughout the rest of his time at the Calderón (until the end of the 2018-19 campaign) Jackson was set to pocket a net salary of 5 million euros per season, making him one of the highest paid members of the Atlético squad.
