Transfer Talk: Man United set sights on Bordeaux's Malcom

Published on: 18 December 2017

With the calendar soon turning over to the new year, the gossip ahead of the January transfer window is heating up. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest rumours.

Manchester United mull major Malcom move

Earlier this year, Liverpool were linked with Bordeaux forward Malcom, but the Sun says Manchester United are now at the front of the queue despite the French club's determination to keep their star.

It reports that Jose Mourinho "is lining up a £30 million swoop" for the Brazil Under-23 international as he looks to add more wide options to his squad.

With Mourinho "set to be handed a whopping £80m kitty in January" Malcom is a key target, with the 20-year-old's ability to fill a variety of attacking roles a major attraction.

The Sun says his arrival would mean the United manager could use Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford centrally rather than deploying them on the left.

But the Mail suggests he will need to be patient, reporting that Bordeaux "would be open to selling Malcom if their valuation can be met, but may be unwilling to negotiate until the summer."

Meanwhile, the Mirror reports that United "have been given the green light to make a January move for Alex Sandro."

Chelsea had a big-money bid turned down by Juventus in the summer, but United "are now in the running and Juve are considering cutting their losses and selling Sandro after his alarming drop in form this season."

The Mirror adds that Mourinho is ready to sell Matteo Darmian, who is interesting Galatasaray, "and that will clear the way to sign a new left-back," with Tottenham's Danny Rose also linked.

Chelsea may swoop for Palace king

Tottenham were favourites to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha in the last transfer window, but now Chelsea are in the hunt.

Zaha has been central to a revival that has taken Palace out of the relegation zone, and the Mirror reports that Chelsea "are keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old and discussing whether to move for him."

It adds that any deal would be more likely to go through in the summer, with Palace intending to keep their key players for the rest of the season as they look to climb further away from danger.

Juve poised to make Can offer

Earlier this month, Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero said Liverpool midfielder Emre Can would be ideal for the Serie A champions -- and now a deal may be drawing closer.

Germany international Can is out of contract in the summer, and the Liverpool Echo reports that Juve will offer a big annual salary to persuade him to move to Turin.

Anfield manager Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Can, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but talks over a new deal appear to have stalled.

Tap-ins

- Bristol City are flying high in the Championship and could break their transfer record to add more firepower in January, according to the Bristol Post.

It says City are keen on Preston striker Jordan Hugill, who has also interested Reading, Wolves and Birmingham and would cost around £8m, eclipsing their £5.3m club record.

- Staying in the Championship, Brentford want to sign Crystal Palace winger Sullay Kaikai, who played for them on loan last season, on a permanent basis, West London Sport reports.

Kaikai was recalled from that loan by then-Palace boss Sam Allardyce but could be available full-time in the forthcoming window.
