Two-year extension for Korea women's coach Yoon

Seoul: Korea Republic women's football coach Yoon Duk-yeo's great work has seen him rewarded with an extension that will keep him at the helm for two more years.

Yoon, 56, steered the Korea Republic team to the AFC Women's Asian Cup Jordan 2018 and the two-year contract extension means he will guide the squad through the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, should they qualify for the tournament.

Yoon signed the new contract with Korea Football Association on Thursday.

"I want to thank the KFA and my players for giving me an opportunity to lead the national team for two more years. I also feel a heavy responsibility," said Yoon.

Yoon has been with the team since December 2012 and renewed his contract after the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada, where Korea Republic reached the round of 16 for the first time.

Korea Republic won the AFC Women's Asian Cup Group B qualifying tournament in Pyongyang, where they competed against DPR Korea, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong and India.

A top five finish in the Women's Asian Cup 2018 will see Korea Republic earn a place in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.
