Caleb Stanko will be sidelined for Freiburg in the coming weeks.

United States international Caleb Stanko is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a meniscus injury with Freiburg.

Stanko, who made his only national team appearance in a World Cup qualifier in 2016, injured the meniscus in his right knee and will have surgery, the German club announced on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has only made six appearances -- one start -- in the Bundesliga this year, last playing in January. The Michigan native joined Freiburg in 2011.

Freiburg also announced that midfielder Amir Abrashi ruptured a cruciate ligament in his right knee and will also be sidelined.
