Ghanaian players enjoyed mixed results in Thursday night's Uefa Europa League as Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey was among players whose competition hopes crashed but Dutch-born brother Derrick and Kevin Luckassen secured progress along with Isaac Sackey.Ã
Amartey played the entire duration of the game for Danish side FC Copenhagen as they slipped to a shocking 3-2 home loss against Czech Republican sideà Jablonec, exiting the competition on a 3-3 aggregate defeat.
Former Manchester City starlet Mohammed Abu was in full-time action for Norwegian Eliteserien side Stromsgodset when they succumbed to a 4-0 aggregate loss, losing either legs 2-0. Midfielder Bismark Adjei-Boateng warmed the bench for the vanquished Stromsgodset side.
Full-back Ebenezer Ofori missed AIK Solna's 1-0 loss at Greek side Atromitos. The Swedish side have also exited the competition on a 4-1 aggregate loss.
Dutch-born Ghanaian youth defender Derrick Luckassen warmed the bench for AZ Alkmaar when they triumphed 2-1 over Turkish side Istanbul to progress to the next round of the competition. Raymond Gyasi could not make the AZ squad for the game.
Both Kevin Luckassen and Isaac Sackey started on the bench for Slovan Liberec as the Croatian side posted a 3-0 victory over Israeli sideà Ironi Kiryat Shmona. Sackey, a former Liberty Professionals player, came on in the second-half to play to the victors.
Spanish-born Ghanaian Inaki Dannis Williams will play in the competition when he returns from injury as his Athletic Bilbao side qualified to the next round on a 2-0 aggregate win.
