Uganda striker Geoffrey Massa inspired his South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amatuks to their first win of the season on Wednesday and later declared that; “Bring on Ghana” ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations clash next month.

The Cranes striker scored once as his University of Pretoria outfit beat Chippa United 2-1 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Massa took just three minutes to open the scoring. He burst forward before chipping the ball over the head of the advancing Chippa goalkeeper Tshepo Motsoeneng to the delight of the club’s fans.

“I was excited to have scored my first goal of the season. I want to make thisa better season. I hope I can continue doing this with the Cranes next month. I feel fit and ready,” said Massa, who is just one of two Cranes stars, whose form will excite coach Micho Sredojevic ahead of next month’s Nations Cup qualifiers against Ghana and Guinea.

Massa’s impressive run came just three days after Cranes winger Luwagga Kizito had rediscovered his scoring boots in Portugal.

The Cranes winger registered a dream start to his career with Sporting Corvilha last weekend after helping them to a -1 win over Segunda side Porto II.

Kizito, who had started Corvilha’s first game of the season against Portimonense on the bench the previous weekend, started this particular match with great effect. He struck twice in the first half to propel his side to fifth place on the 24-teamtable.

The two players’ efficiency in front of goal will certainly concern Ghanaian coach Appiah Kwesi.

Ghana name squad

Kwesi has named a 24-man squad for Cranes’ visit in Kumasi and will spend the next days working out a strategy that will frustrate the likes of Massa, Luwagga and Moses Oloya.

Veteran midfielder Michael Essien, and ‘badboys’ Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng, who were both sent home from the World Cup in Brazil over ill-discipline have been excluded from the squad.

Cranes will have to watch the predatory skills of Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayewand Kwadwo Asamoah. The top two from each group and the best third placed team will join hosts Morocco for January’sAfrica Cup of Nations finals.
