Uncertainty at Kotoko as formal appointment of Samuel Osei Kuffour as 'President' is delayed
Sammy Kuffour is yet to be formally confirmed as Kotoko's new 'President'

The formal announcement of Samuel Osei Kuffour as the new 'President' of Asante Kotoko on Friday failed to materialize creating even more uncertainty about the future of the club.

The 39-year-old was expected to be confirmed as the new administrative head of the club following the dissolution of the existing board.

Kotoko Express, the official newspaper of the dethroned Ghana Premier League champions had reported on the imminent dissolution of the club's board at the Manhyia Palace on Friday.

But this event did not happen over reports the club owner is unhappy with Kuffour's public confirmation of his appointment even before it is formalized.

The ex Bayern Munich star had confirmed his appointment as 'President' of the club in an interview with Metro TV.

He even went ahead to hint he had been handed the administration of the club for the next five-years to which he sounded a rallying call for support from all quarters in order for his tenure to be successful.

This public confirmation even before his appointment is officialized seems not to have gone down too well with the club owner.

Instead, the current board believed to be heading towards the exit met to setup a five-member committee to oversee player transfers during the off-season.

The surprising turn of events is very consistent with Otumfuo's mode of appointment with respect to Asante Kotoko.

The revered monarch is noted for opting for the appointment of unknowns when media speculation is skewed towards a direction.

There were however advanced talks and an agreement in principle to hand over the club to Kuffour who is an inactive member of the current board.

The club owner might perhaps have done again what he is best noted for by swerving almost everyone in making the choice of who is best fit to run Asante Kotoko.
