US-based striker Gifty Opoku Afriyie fears Ghana's poor showing at the African Women Championship can kill off interest in women's football in the country.

The Black Queens were eliminated from the Nations Cup on-going in South Africa on Tuesday after failing to advance from the Group phase

Afriyie, who plays for Robert Morris College, wants imminent changes to reverse the current trend.

"It’s a sorry state we find ourselves and it’s a shame there seems to be little interest in the game due to the fact that there hasn’t been enough support for the game," Appiah said.

''Ghana with all her past glories has never played in even a single international friendly match but this is apposite what happens in Europe and elsewhere in the World where teams are always playing active friendly matches to keep them in shape ahead of international matches."

"I fear if efforts are not made t arrest the current situation, it might collapse the interest of the game in the country and that will be sad commentary."
