Valencia want to keep Goncalo Guedes, must wait for PSG decision

Published on: 23 February 2018

Goncalo Guedes joined Valencia on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in September.

Valencia will have to wait to find out if Goncalo Guedes' loan move from Paris Saint-Germain will become permanent next summer.

Guedes has scored four goals and set up six more in 19 La Liga appearances.

No buy-out option was included in the deal but Valencia are keen to keep Guedes beyond next summer.

"It doesn't depend on us," Valencia general director Mateo Alemany said at a news conference when asked about Guedes' future. "There's nothing new. The player is on loan until June 30 and at the end of the season we shall see what PSG's position is.

"PSG have not manifested any predisposition and will do what all professional clubs do, which is to wait and evaluate the situation and see how they face the next season. They will either put Guedes on the market or not, [or] they will see if it's convenient for them to loan him again. The planning will happen at the end of the season once we know where we are."

Tied to PSG until June 2021, the 21-year-old winger recently admitted he would be happy to remain at Valencia next season.

While Valencia cannot make the decision on Guedes, they are able to do so on Geoffrey Kondogbia. The French defensive midfielder joined Valencia last summer on an initial long loan from Inter Milan with Valencia holding an option to buy.

"We have until May 31 but we will make a decision before then," Alemany said. "Everything is agreed with the player and Inter. We are very happy with the player's performances."

Kondogbia has scored three goals and set up another in 20 league starts for Valencia, who are fourth in La Liga.
