Versatile Ghana defender Jeffrey Schulpp made his 100th league appearance for Leicester City as they  claimed a deserved 2-1 victory over West Ham United at the Upton Park to go top in the English Premier League.

The Foxes recorded their 9th win in 11 Premier League games to highlight their superior form from last season as they staged possibly the biggest survival campaign in Premier League history.

Since last May, Claudio Ranieri's men have collected 28 points in 11 matches (possible 33) more than any other club in the English top-flight league.

Schlupp has been at the fulcrum of the Foxes superior form as he has started and completed both of their opening games of the brand new season and finished last season as Leicester City's Players' Player of the season.

The Hamburg-born Ghana international achieved a milestone in the win over West Ham United as he made his century appearance for the club he has played for since age 12.

Leicester have returned to the summit of the Premier League table and could close the week as leaders should Manchester City and Liverpool fail to win their matches.

Building on their emphatic 4-2 opening-day win over Sunderland, Leicester took a deserved 27th-minute lead in east London as Japan forward Shinji Okazaki scored his first for the club. Riyad Mahrez was a two-goal hero for City last time out and the Algeria winger was on target once more to give Ranieri's men breathing space at the interval.
