Returning Chelsea winger Christian Atsu has hired Ghana's fitness trainer to keep him in tip top shape to ensure he impresses manager Gus Hiddink to secure him a place in the Blues squad.

Fitness trainer Jamie Lawrence has been taking the Ghana superstar through some rigorous gym work in London to ensure that when he is given the Chelsea chance he grabs it with both hands.

The Ghana international has been recalled by Chelsea, his parent club, after a disappointing loan spell with Bournemouth that has seen him feature just twice for the Cherries this season.

New Chelsea boss Hiddink ordered the recall of Atsu, keen to observe him at first hand before deciding whether to keep him or send him away on another loan stint.

To ensure that he takes full advantage of the chance offered by the Dutch coach, Atsu has turned to Lawrence, who is grilling him in the gym to bring him back to shape of months of absence.

Atsu met Lawrence, the former Leicester City and Jamaica international, in the Ghana camp as the former midfielder was credited for getting the Black Stars players fully fit for their impressive showing at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The winger has not played since suffering an injury while playing for Ghana in September last year and the five-month lack of match fitness could affect his rating in the eyes of Hiddink.

As such he us paying Jamie Lawrence to ensure that his fitness level is at its peak when Hiddink gives him the chance to play for the Blues.

The former Rio Ave and former FC Porto midfielder is yet to play for Chelsea since signing for the Blues three seasons ago.

But he will hold talks with the interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink after seeing a promising loan deal at Bournemouth cut short due to injures and lack of opportunities.

The dimunitive yet talented winger will now train with the English Champions and have his fate decided by Guus Hiddink who has been handed the job to keep the sinking champions afloat.

This is the second time Atsu has struggled during a loan spell after failing to cop consistent game time at Everton in the 2014-2015 season.
