Dreadful Saudi start for ex-Ghana coach Rajevac

Published on: 16 September 2010

Ex-Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac got off to a dreadful start as coach of Saudi side Al Ahli as they were hammered 3-1 by city rivals Al Ittihad on Thursday night.

The Serbian coach's plight was made even worse by the fact that he was beaten by a side coached by former coach of Al Ahly Cairo Manuel Jose who was also making his first appearance.

Rajevac is fame of having a solid defence in his teams but a gaping hole was evident in midfield as Al Ahli raced to a 2-0 lead.

Ahli pulled one back before a second half goal of Ittihad sealed the win to complete a miserable day for the former Black Stars coach.

Rajevac knows that his performance is being closely monitored in Ghana and he wouldn't be happy with how his team defended during the game.

Al Ahli made the decision to appoint Rajevac as the new man in charge of the club’s senior side to stem the tide of recent bad results.

The two-time league champions were in the market for a new head coach following the departure of Trond Sollied earlier this month.

The Norwegian gaffer was sacked because of Al Ahli’s disappointing results.

Rajevac's debut is unlikely to please his new employers who are keen on improving the fortunes of the side.

Rajevac stepped down as Ghana coach last week.

The Serbian gaffer guided the Black Stars to the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup, where they were beaten after penalties by Uruguay.
