Kuala Lumpur: Vietnam opened their 2017 SEA Games women’s football campaign with a 3-0 win over the Philippines at the UM Arena Stadium on Thursday.

Both sides, who have booked their tickets to the final round of the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, started warily.

After a scoreless first half, Hyunh Nhu (pictured above, centre) - who scored a hat trick against Singapore in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers in April - opened the scoring for Vietnam in the 64th minute.

Six minutes from time, Nguyen Thi Tuyet hit home after receiving a pass into the penalty area, before Nguyen Thi Muon tripled their advantage when custodian Palacios Inna Kris failed to catch the ball.

Malaysia will play Myanmar later on Thursday.
