Espanyol midfielder Munarak Wakaso says he is not surprised to have been handed his debut call-up to the Ghana national team.

The 22-year-old has been solid since arriving to Barcelona from relegated Villarreal.

Wakaso's impressive displays for the Blue and Whites has caught the attention of coach Akwasi Appiah who named the ex AshantiGold strongman in his 21-man squad to face Malawi in the 2013 AFCON qualifier on October 13.

The defensive midfielder though delighted with the invitation, says it comes as no surprise.

"I am not surprised I have called to the Black Stars team. It is just a matter of time and patience provided you keep working hard with your club," he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

"I am very confident I can play in the Black Stars but there are other good player there too.

"I give thanks to God for my first call-up and hopefully things will go well."

Wakaso broke onto the scene as a ruthless midfielder during the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru.
