Referee S.B Bortey insists he wasn’t slapped by ‘anyone’ despite being reported to have suffered physical abuse in the 2-2 draw between Hearts of Oak and New Edubiase.

Bortey came under attack by irate Hearts of Oak supporters for awarding a last minute penalty kick for New Edubiase to equalize.

Metro FM’s Kwadwo Kwao Thompson had reported that the referee was slapped by an ‘old fan’ after the game had ended.

But Bortey is adamant he did not suffer any abuse.

“I wasn’t slapped by anyone, rather someone attempted to slap me but I dodged due to my military training,” he told Metro FM.

“No one touched. That is his version from where he is [confirmed report of his slap by Metro FM reporter Kwadwo Kwao Thompson].

“I was with my assistants and I can say that no one slapped me.”

The draw at the Accra Sports Stadium saw Hearts of Oak miss out on second place in the league – ultimately costing them a return to the CAF Champions League.
