"We want to rebrand and rebuild Ashantigold" - Frederick Acheampong

Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold Frederick Acheampong has stated their ambition to make the club a major force on the continent once again.

AshantiGold were one of the most attractive clubs both on the local scene and on the continent during the early 90's.

The Miners clinched the Ghana Premier League in three successive league titles during that period and went on to reach the 1997 final of the CAF Champions League, where they lost to Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca on penalties.

The Obuasi-based side have endured a tough time thereafter - winning just once one Championship title.

However, measures have been put in place by the club's new investors, Dr Kwaku Frimpong and Nana Adu Abankoro Acheampong, to ensure they return to their former glory days - a move which newly appointed CEO, Fred Acheampong has confirmed.

"We want to re-brand and rebuild Ashantigold to attract people. The brand which is associated to AshantiGold is gone and we want to revive it, we want the club to be at the level which we all knew but our focus is not only being in the playing body but in other areas," Mr Acheampong stated on Happy FM.

"We have painted the whole stadium, clean the washrooms changed some doors and also building good relationship with the players."

“We think we are associated to a brand with high level and we want the team to be the same level as we knew. We want the team to attract people like previous days."

"Even after the painting of the stadium and set of pictures is circulating our former player Ibrahim Akone has contact and showing some appreciation that the team is gradually coming up and they will all come on board to contribute their quota."
