Ghana women's team captain Mercy Myles says the side was simply unfortunate not to have beaten South Africa on Thursday.

The Black Queens failed to pick maximum points in their opening Group B game despite creating the better of the chances.

Ghana must now get a result in their final match against Cameroon to secure progress in the competition following their stuttering start.

The team’s conversion rate has been lamented by coach Yusif Basigi but team captain Mercy Myles believes the side was only unfortunate.

“I would say we were just unfortunate," she said.

"We hit the bar and post several times with balls that should have ended up in the goal.

"But that is how football is. Sometimes you win some and you lose some.

"We now look forward to winning our final match to avoid early exit."
