West Ham United owner David Sullivan has expressed his regret of not signing Andre Ayew when the Ghana midfielder was made available to them on a free transfer this summer.
The Hammers had the chance of signing the hugely talented player who has become has instant hit in the English Premier League with Swansea City.
Swans coach Garry Monk swooped for the winger's signature on a free transfer from French side Marseille in the summer as West Ham chief dithered over the terms of contract for the Ghana international.
Now the Hammers have had to look on in frustration as midfielder Ayew has scored three goals in his first four games, including the header that helped put Manchester United to the sword.
Sullivan admits he regrets not dealing in the Ghanaian when he had the chance to bring the hugely talented 25-year-old to the club.
“I regret not signing Ayew you because I really fancied him,†Sullivan told ClaretandHugh.
Ayew was named the best player in the English Premier League in August - his first month in the world's most popular league.
The winger met officials of West Ham over the summer but they were not keen to meet his wage demands which scuppered the deal.
However, Swansea City who were underrated by many came up with the needed amount to pay for the Ghana international to play for them.
This has proven to be the biggest bargain of the transfer window as the Swans got the Ghanaian playmaker on a free transfer.
