Singapore: Albirex Niigata FC (S) clinched the Singapore Cup 2017 on Friday after defeating Global Cebu FC 3-1 on penalties.

The match ended 2-2 after extra-time, forcing the tie to be decided by kicks from the penalty mark.

Global Cebu FC came from behind twice in the 120 minutes to level matters but Yosuke Nozawa pulled off the match-deciding save during the penalties to defend the championship for Albirex.

The win means that the White Swans have now won the Singapore Cup for three consecutive years. They have also secured the domestic quadruple for the second year running, having earlier defended the Community Shield, League Cup and the S.League title.

FAS President Lim Kia Tong said: “Congratulations to Albirex Niigata FC (S) for securing the Singapore Cup for the third consecutive time and for clinching the quadruple once more.

"The Singapore Cup Final marks the end of the 2017 season and it has been a thrilling ride with our fans throughout this year. We look forward to an even more exciting season in 2018.”
