Whitecaps coach admits Ghanaian Gershon Koffie pushing for starting role this season

Vancouver Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson has identified Ghanaian midfielder Gershon Koffie as one of three players knocking on the door for a starting place this season.

Koffie alongside Sam Adekugbe and Darren Mattocks were introduced at half time and influenced their final pre-season match which ended 1-1.

After the match Robinson said: “They were fantastic in their attitude but also their play. They’re knocking right on the door to start. I’ve got some good decisions to make. That’s good, because I didn’t have them last year. But I’ve got them this year.”

Koffie, 23, is in his fourth season at the club and wants to improve last season’s one goal in

Whitecaps start their campaign in the Western Conference on Saturday on 7 March against Toronto.
