Ghana FA technical director Francis Oti Akenteng says it will be a ââ¬Ëmistakeââ¬â¢ if Kwesi Appiah is sacked as the Black Stars coach.
Appiahââ¬â¢s future has become a matter of intense speculation despite being offered a two-year deal by the Ghana FA.
The former Kotoko coach supervised the Black Stars disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where the team failed to progress past the group phase for the first time.
The teamââ¬â¢s disappointing campaign has brought the technical ability of Appiah into questioning with reports emerging this week that the FA has approached Serbian Ljubinko Drulovic to fashion out technical direction for the team.
Reports have also suggested that the 54-year-old will step down as the coach of the team if the FA insists on hiring an expatriate to help him.
Ghana FA technical director Francis Oti Akenteng feels Appiah has done well and deserves to be at post.
ââ¬ÅIn my view, it will be a mistake if Kwesi is sacked or decides not to continue with the job,â⬠he told Asempa FM
ââ¬ÅI think he has done well but there are always room for improvement.
ââ¬ÅFrom where I sit, I think it will be a mistake if he quit or sacked. Kwesi has not done badly since he assumed the role.
ââ¬ÅWe must support him to ensure he succeeds.ââ¬
Appiah is expected to arrive in Ghana from holidays this week to hold showdown talks with the Ghana FA over contractual issues.
