I will not wait for Black Stars coaching job - Ex Ghana striker Ibrahim Tanko

Ex Ghana striker Ibrahim Tanko says he will not be playing the waiting game in his desire to become coach of the Black Stars.

The 37-year-old is currently the assistant Cameroon coach to his mentor Volker Finke.

Tanko who started his coaching career in 2007 with German club SC Freiburg has not hidden his ambition to one day emerge as the head coach of Ghana.

He believes his various experiences picked up so far and ones to come will help him adequately prepare for his return to the Black Stars fold as coach.

But the former Borussia Dortmund striker insists he will not be laying fallow looking for the job to coach Ghana but will rather spend his time coaching elsewhere until the opportunity presents itself.

“I am not waiting for a vacancy in Ghana coaching so I am trying to do my thing and try to coach everywhere I can so that when the time comes that the GFA or Ghanaians feel it is the right time for me to come and coach the national team, yes, but I am not waiting for anything,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I need to keep working to get all the experience I need. I had some good experience in Japan – I was the first Black coach in the Bundesliga – so if I had waited, all these things would have passed by. So I will continue to learn a lot from big coaches because in Germany we get to meet all the big coaches every three months to learn from them.

“So the FA and Ghanaians are the ones to decide if the time comes and there is any vacancy and I am also free, then why not?

“I mean I am a Ghanaian and I would love to coach my country.”

Tanko was restricted to only 10 appearances for the Black Stars due to his persistent misfortune with injuries.

He was part of the Ghana squad in the opening qualifiers for the debut 2006 World Cup participation.

He however failed to make the Black Stars squad for the tournament staged in Germany due to injury.
