Worcester City's Daniel Nti is revelling in his striker's role and can't wait for their National League North curtain-raiser at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.

Nti, who lives in Milton Keynes, notched four goals in City's seven preseason games after being handed the central striker's position.

He signed a new one-year deal earlier this summer and admits he had no hesitation in agreeing to a third term with the Blue and Whites.

"I have had two happy seasons at the club. This will be my third and I didn't have any hesitation in remaining here,"

he said. "I am positive we can build on last season and push for a higher position in the division, so it was an easy decision to re-sign.

"I am enjoying my time at Worcester and I am doing my best to help the team."

Nti visited his grandparents in Ghana during the summer and watched his friend Jeff Schlupp score for the same nation in an African Cup of Nations qualifying victory against Mauritius.

"All the boys came back for pre-season training looking sharp. Everybody in the squad is desperate to do well and I think we are looking in good shape," he said.

"People were working hard 12 months ago but we've kicked on and worked even harder during this pre-season."

Nti's summer goal tally includes a penalty against Bishop's Cleeve and the striker says he's comfortable taking the spot-kicks.

"I am pleased to have had a good preseason and it's good to start with a few goals," he said. "I have always taken penalties - it's what I have done in the past.

It doesn't hold any fear for me.

"I am playing up-front, rather than on the wing, and I like that. It's something I feel comfortable with and I'm enjoying it a lot."

Nti was pleased to get on the scoresheet as City overcame Redditch United 3-1 to clinch the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup.

He added: "I don't think we had won the competition since 1997 so it was a great achievement but Redditch gave us a tough game. Everybody is now looking forward to the first game of the season and I think we have got a stronger squad."
