World best player nominee Christian Atsu absent as Bournemouth draw with Watford
Ghana star Atsu has been absent for Bournemouth

World Footballer of the Year nominee Christian Atsu was not named in the Bournemouth squad that were held to a 1-1 home draw by Watford in the English Premier League on Saturday.

The Ghana international, who is a key player for the Black Stars, was not even called as the Cherries had Glenn Murray scoring and had a late penalty saved in the draw.

Atsu's exclusion came just one day after he was named in a shortlist of 50 players for the World Player of the Year award popularly called Balon d'Or.

The Ghanaian has not played for the side in the Premier League since moving on loan from Chelsea at the start of the season.

Summer signing Murray, replacing the injured Callum Wilson, nodded in a Matt Ritchie cross to put the hosts ahead.

Watford were gifted an equaliser when Cherries keeper Artur Boruc passed to Odion Ighalo, who side-footed home.

Bournemouth were awarded a penalty for Etienne Capoue's foul on Adam Smith, but Murray's effort was pushed away by Hornets keeper Heurelho Gomes.

Though Boruc's error and Murray's miss will frustrate Cherries boss Eddie Howe, his side did survive a Ben Watson half-volley hitting the crossbar.

Bournemouth beat Watford to the Championship title by a point last season; this was a third draw between the sides in their past four meetings.
