Nigeria coach says no to girlfriends at the World Cup

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has given the green  light to married Super Eagles players to take their wives to the World Cup but has ruled out girlfriends for the Brazil tournament in June.

The ex-international defender Keshi ruled out single players going to the tournament in June with their girlfriends insisting there is no room for them during the competition.

The clamour has been growing for Nigeria to approve for its players to send their WAGs – 'Wives and Girlfriends' - the the competition because of the long drawn-out nature of the event.

However, Keshi said that WAGs are good for the players but would not tolerate girlfriends in Brazil.

‘’In any civilized country, WAGs are always allowed to accompany their husbands to the World Cup. In 9994, Westerhof allowed us go with our wives," Keshi said at the Tom Tom roundtable.

"Married men in the Eagles can go with their wives but there will be no room for girlfriends," he said as many single girls in the audience protested mildly.

The Super Eagles coach's approval of wives for the tournament could have a trickle-down effect on Ghana as players of the Black Stars could also be forced to ask for such privileges.

It is not known if coach Kwesi Appiah would approve Black Stars wives for Brazil let alone girlfriends.

Do you think the Black Stars should be allowed to send their wives or girlfriends to the World Cup? Make your views known in the box below:

Big NO,the team need to focus,we mean business,if the super eagles think they are just going to be part of the numbers that is their own business..we reject any attempts by our coach to approve such a thing.

I 100% agree with this coach. Girlfriends cannot be trusted in places like Brazil especially when it came to Nigerian women and the promiscuous behavior.

hahaha, keshi, how do u expect the players to be focused if they bring their wives. r u telling me that players sexual satisfaction for a month is of a higher priority than total focus???? tell ur boys to put their ding dongs away for a month and f#$king focus. we want all the african teams advancing from their groups. nuns and monks stay celibate for live, and u can't do it for a month...... keshi, u disappoint me. keshi may have a different mindset. take for example, the AFCON sex wahala. the presence of wives may discourage some players from fooling around... lol

why are we africans so dumb? THE WORLD CUP IS NOT A PARTY.IT IS A COMPETITION...IT IS LIKE GOING TO WRITE UR FINAL EXAMS. GOING TO WW3 ETC. SECONDLY, BRASIL IS OVERPOPULATED WITH BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. THESE WOMEN ALONE CAN POSE A DISTRACTION FOR THE PLAYERS. IF THE PLAYER WANTS TO SPONSOR HIS FAMILY, WIFE, GIRLFRIEND ETC TO BRASIL OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET. THATS ONE THING. BUT FOR THE COACH/TEAM TO ENDORSE SENDING WIVES AND GIRLFRIENDS TO BRASIL IS VERY STUPID. ITS A HUGE DISTRACTION!
