Ghana striker Jordan Ayew came off the bench to score his first goal for Sochaux after eight games as the struggling Ligue 1 side beat Bordeaux 2-0 on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old's goal comes as a huge relief for the youngster as he fights for a place in the Ghana team for the World Cup which is just four months away.

He replaced Sebastian Corchia in the 68th minute and after 12 minutes on the pitch he gave Sochaux the lead.

Ayew’s barren run since moving to the Stade Auguste-Bonal in January on loan from Marseille had been frustrating for the youngster and his club.

So Sochaux Renard Herve decided to start from the bench and that paid off.

Cederic Bakambu scored the assurance goal on 80 minutes to move them third bottom and five points away from safety.

Sochaux stole ahead on 70 minutes when Ayew finally broke his goal drought.

The on-loan Marseille striker had not scored since November but, after stepping off the bench, took just a few minutes to make his mark as he took a touch before firing home from Sebastien Roudet's through-ball to complete a stunning counter-attack.

Sochaux then ensured the points when Bakambu profited on a Carrasso howler.

The Bordeaux keeper raced off his line, and out of the penalty area, to clear the danger he only made more acute when he managed to clumsily thigh the ball. Bakambu raced behind the red-faced goalkeeper to collect the loose ball and tap home.

Evian's 2-0 win over Nantes on Friday night had left Sochaux eight points adrift of safety, but again the Montbeliard club responded to the danger with an important win.

Renard's side have now taken 11 points from the past six games - losing only once - and they were good value for their latest success despite riding their luck at times.

Ayew heads to Ghana’s camp on Sunday to prepare for a pre-World Cup friendly against Montenegro in Podgorica.
