Rafa and Ivan Cavaleiro could make their Portugal debuts against Cameroon after being included in Paulo Bento's 23-man squad to be captained by the feared Cristiano Ronaldo.

The duo form part of an otherwise experienced contingent for Wednesday's friendly, as preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup step up a gear.

Rafa has displayed impressive form since joining Braga from Feirense in the close season, scoring three goals in 18 league appearances.

Cavaleiro, meanwhile, has come through the ranks at Benfica and broke into the first team earlier this season.

Edinho is included among Portugal's forwards following his recent loan switch from Braga to Kayseri Erciyesspor in Turkey, while Lyon's Miguel Lopes and Inter loanee Rolando are among those returning to the fold.

A hamstring injury rules out Manchester United's Nani, while Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo will once again lead the side.

Portugal have been drawn in Group G alongside Germany, Ghana and the United States for the World Cup in June and July.

Squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Eduardo (Sporting Braga), Beto (Sevilla), Anthony Lopes (Lyon)

Defenders: Miguel Lopes (Lyon), Joao Pereira (Valencia), Ricardo Costa (Valencia), Pepe (Real Madrid), Fabio Coentrao (Real Madrid), Rolando (Inter), Luis Neto (Zenit), Antunes (Malaga).

Midfielders: Raul Meireles (Fenerbahce), Joao Moutinho (Monaco), Miguel Veloso (Dynamo Kiev), William Carvalho (Sporting), Ruben Amorim (Benfica), Josue (Porto).

Forwards: Rafa (Braga), Ivan Cavaleiro (Benfica), Edinho (Kayseri Erciyesspor), Hugo Almeida (Besiktas), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Silvestre Varela (Porto).

Good morning nana.with all due respect it will be wrong for that their midfield is not good. The fact that most play for less decorated teams doesnt mean their midfield is bad. Just take a look at the names they have-miguel veloso of ukranian side dynamo kiev and jao moutinho of french side Ac monaco play the creative version of the portuguese midfield. Moutihno is damn good no wonder monaco splashed 25 million € to aquire his signature. And dont forget former porto, liverpool and chelsea midfield bulldozzer Raul mereiles now with turkish top flight side fenerbache instanbul. That mereiles guy is a gutta to gutta player as we say back home. No nosense midfielder. Underate their defence at your own peril. One thing i will say is their goalkeeping area. Eduardo of braga aint bad but he is neigther world class. As for their defence there is no need to talk about it because with pepe, ricardo costa, rolando and bruno alves portugal has a got hard tackling no nonsense defenders. Pepe and ricardo costa are high tempered n that lead very fast to red card. With the right tactics and players ghana can overcome the group.

To me the Portuguese team is the weakest team in our group the only threat is christian Ronaldo, if he is been marked well the job is done, I remember Israel handled Portugal easily during their qualifications, what the israelites did is the took christian Ronaldo out of the game by making sure every passes he gets is wasted, and am sure blackstars have good enough players to handle him

@Keith , Mereiles is not that good anymore , now he lacks the physical exertion demonstrate @ Chelsea that why he was not getting game time , I watched their game with Russia and israel However, am not saying their not good, they are a big threat to defend, and again it takes a lot for black African people to get to big teams than European. But football is not about individuals anymore but talents and team work play a contributing factor
