‘Writing on the wall’ as Rooney looks to quit Man Utd

Wayne Rooney is reportedly ready to leave Manchester United this summer.

A United source has told the Daily Mail that the Red Devils captain is unhappy at his reduced role at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho and will depart at the end of the season.

The source said: “The writing is on the wall for Wayne.

“He can see what's happening. He's playing less and believes he still has a lot to give.

“He won't want to continue here like this."

After 13 years at the club, Rooney is determined to exit on his own terms.

It is understood that he is still considering a £35million-a-year offer to play in the Chinese Super League but with their transfer deadline closing next week, that appears unlikely.

North American clubs in MLS are continuing to show plenty of interest while boyhood club Everton are also keen, but may not be able to afford his £230,000-a-week basic wage.

Rooney, 32, accepts that now is the time to leave despite having 18 months left on his current contract, with the option of a further 12 months, as he sits behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the attacking pecking order under Mourinho.
