Former Spain international midfielder Xabi Alonso plans to become a manager.
The ex-Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich man who won two UEFA Champions League trophies and the 2010 World Cup retired as a player in May.
Alonso, 35, had been working toward his coaching badges this summer, and revealed his future plans on his Instagram account on Monday evening.
"After 17 years in the game, I have considered the next step in my career," he said in a brief video. "I have decided to go into management. Find out soon. #HereToCreate."
Alonso in March announced the 2016-17 season would be his last as a player, using his Twitter account to say: "Lived it. Loved it. Farewell beautiful game."
Alonso began his career with Sociedad and moved to Liverpool in 2004, where he won trophies including the 2005 Champions League and 2006 FA Cup.
He left for Real Madrid in 2009, winning La Liga in 2011-12, the 2014 Champions League and the Copa del Rey on two occasions.
He joined Bayern in 2014 and won Bundesliga titles in his first two seasons as well as last season's DFB Pokal.
He had also enjoyed great success with Spain, in addition to the world championship winning the 2008 and 2012 European Championships before retiring from international football in 2014.
