Yahaya Mohammed admits he is delighted with his Ghana call-up but insists he is not surprised after being named in a provisional 26-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old was the shock inclusion in the squad released by coach Kwesi Appiah on Thursday.

The Amidaus Professionals midfielder has emerged as the standout performer in the country’s top-flight league where he has raked in 9 goals in 10 matches and there were many who thought he deserved an international recognition.

The on-loan Asante Kotoko intelligent player has welcomed the challenge and insists he’s ready to fight for a place in the team

“I am very happy and I thank officials of Amidaus for what they have done for me,” Mohammed said

“To be honest with you I’m not surprised with the call-up. It has long been my target to play for the national team and I knew the time was close.

“I am ready to play in any position that I’m asked to operate from by the coach.

“The call-up will spare me on and boost my confidence and I will prove myself to Ghanaians.”

The ex-OGC Nice player was farmed out on loan to the Tema-based side but has suddenly become the toast of fans with swash-buckling performances that has got him many admirers.
