Ghana striker Yahaya Mohammed has highlighted the importance of African Nations Championship and says he'd love to play football in South Africa.

The Asante Kotoko ace has been one of the top performers at the tournament and was named man of match after scoring in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Libya last Friday.

Mohammed has emerged as a transfer target for some unnamed South African Premier Soccer League sides.

He loves the platform provided by the continent’s football governing body for home-based players.

“It is a fantastic idea and one that has produced a worthwhile competition to show the local players who otherwise who remain unknown,” Mohammed told cafonline.com.

“It is a platform for all local players to launch careers in big and more competitive football leagues elsewhere in the world including here on the African continent.

“I have spoken to Ghanaian players playing here in South Africa and it is a country l would love to play my club football in."
