Yahaya Seidu - Ghana's 'new Michael Essien' set to sweep Israeli titles

Published on: 13 May 2011

Ghanaian midfielder Yahaya Seidu will lift the Israeli league title on Saturday in the first of the two titles he expects to cap an outstanding season for the enforcer.

The tough tackling midfielder with the smoothness of Mohammed Polo has been heavily instrumental in the successes of Maccabi Haifa this season.

They are within touching distance of regaining the Premier League title with the Ghanaian playing almost all the matches for the club this season.

With just two rounds to go in the Championship playoffs, Maccabi Haifa are ahead of Hapoel Tel Aviv by four points and a win would clinch the title.

Haifa will clinch a seventh Premier League championship in 11 years with one victory in its remaining two matches even should Hapoel triumph in its final two games of the campaign.

Haifa will be hoping to wrap up the title when it hosts Ironi Kiryat Shmona on Monday, but it could even clinch the championship without playing on Saturday if Hapoel lose.

They will also take on Hapoel Tel Aviv  in the State Cup finals later this month.

The final will be a re-match of the top two teams in this season's Premier League.

Key to Haifa's successes this season is midfielder Seidu who has created most of the chances for for the strikers and his performance has even raised eyebrows from other European clubs.

While the concentration has been on the five key leagues in Europe for places in the Black Stars, Seidu's performance should not have gone unnoticed by Ghana team officials.

With his performances, an opportunity to be observed by Black Stars coaches will go a long way in discovering more talent for the World Cup quarter finalists.
