Seidu Salifu handed debut Black Stars call up

Tunisia-based midfielder Seidu Salifu has been handed his debut call up to the Black Stars for this month’s friendly matches against Mali and Senegal, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

GHANASoccernet.com sources at Club Africain says the 21-year-old is being rewarded for his improved season.

Salifu was part of the 2013 crop of the Ghana U20 team that finished runners up and third place in the African Youth Championships and U20 FIFA World Cup respectively.

The ex Wa All Stars player has made 18 starts for Club Africain this term in the Tunisian top flight.

Ghana coach Avram Grant is making good on his promise of giving international opportunities to performing young talents with the call up of Salifu.

The former Chelsea boss wants to closely assess the tough-tackling midfielder to see if he can fit into the team and also to give competition to the likes of Rabiu Mohammed and Afriyie Acquah in the defensive midfield position.

Ghana will play Mali and Senegal in respective friendly games at the end of this month in France.

This will be the first outing of the Black Stars since their silver-medal feat at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Equatorial Guinea.
