Zakkour blames Ghana FA for taking Muntari, Kevin and Essien to World Cup
Zakkour says Essien, Muntari and Boateng should not have been sent to the World Cup

Ex-Hearts of Oak chief Harry Zakkour says sending Sulley Muntari, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Michael Essien to the World Cup is the cause of Ghana's disastrous showing in Brazil and the Ghana FA must be held responsible for the decision.

Zakkour says the GFA failed to listen to his advice of not sending the three senior players to the tournament insisting the disciplinary problems created by the trio has vindicated his position. Ghana's 2014 World Cup campaign was rocked by disciplinary issues and bonus rows which seems to have affected their chances at the tournament.

Muntari was axed from the team for physically attacking a Ghana FA member and Boateng was handed a similar punishment for verbally attacking coach Kwesi Appiah.

Essien is also likely to face disciplinary sanctions from the FA for refusing to join the team’s warm-up ahead of the match against Portugal.

Zakkour, who warned against the inclusion of the trio in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup, says the GFA must pay the price for not heeding to his prophetic advice.  â€œI said it before the World Cup that these boys should not be taken to the tournament but no one listened to me,” he said.

“Now, look at the shame they brought to us; their indiscipline in camp has embarrassed our nation.

“For me though, I blame the GFA for all these problems in Brazil as I honestly think there was no need to have sent these three players,” Zakour added.

Ghana failed to replicate her sterling performances exhibited at the past two World Cups in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010 when they failed to progress past the group stage.
