Zidane: 'We controlled the game very well'

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane hailed his side's performance in coming from a goal down to win 2-1 at Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals.

Madrid trailed to a Joshua Kimmich goal before Marcelo and Marco Asensio turned the game around.

"We're very satisfied with the result, but we had a lot of problems in the first few minutes trying to take control of the game," Zidane said after the game. "The tie is far from over, it's more than possible that Bayern could win in the Bernabeu, but we are very happy to have won 2-1 in Munich."

Keylor Navas was caught out for Kimmich's goal, trying to anticipate the cross when the Bayern player went for the shot and found the back of the net, but Zidane refused to single out the Costa Rica international.

"Bayern's goal was a consequence of several people making mistakes, not just Navas," he said. "He was very good in the second half. I think we suffered a little tonight off the ball, I thought Ribery was excellent tonight.

"We are very motivated, we love to play abroad in the Champions League. Our opponents had their chances, but overall we controlled the game very well."

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos said: "We were really solid and defended very well. We've taken the first step.

"People expect us to come here and win 3-0, but this is a great Bayern side. We need to have a lot of respect because the tie's not over yet.

"We knew what we were going to come up against, we've played here at a great stadium and played a wonderful game. We scored twice but were also really solid. We knew how to defend well and restrict their spaces."

Asensio added: "We knew it was important to score, and most of all to win. We had to suffer and make the most of any opportunities and we'll be taking a good result home."
