Al Ain: Zlatko Dalic has stepped down as head coach of Al Ain after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Al Jazira in the UAE Pro League on Monday..

The result leaves Al Ain in third spot, some seven points behind league leaders and fellow 2017 AFC Champions League hopefuls Al Jazira.

After taking the helm in March 2014, the Croatian coach guided Al Ain to a sixth UAE President’s Cup two months later, a twelfth UAE Pro League title in 2016, and most recently a runners-up spot in the 2016 AFC Champions League.

“I have done my best. I’m really proud of my three-years at the club, and I think it’s time," said Dalic. "I don’t want to take anything from anybody. I need to rest.”

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me.”

In their opening fixture in the 2017 AFC Champions League Group Stage, Al Ain is set to face Zobahan FC from the Islamic Republic of Iran on February 21.
