16-year-old Arsenal academy star Patino thrilled after he trains with first-team

Charlie Patino was thrilled after the 16-year-old Arsenal academy player got to experience training with Mikel Arteta's first-team squad on Friday.

Patino, 16, joined Arsenal's academy from Luton in 2015, and received a call-up to England's Under-17 squad last November.

The young midfielder took to Instagram on Friday to announce that he had been working with Arsenal's senior squad at their training base in London Colney.

Patino posted an Instagram story with a picture of his training top and the caption: "What an experience training with the First Team."

The midfielder will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Joe Willick, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson in making the step up from Arsenal's academy to the first team.

Patino's call-up follows good news for another young Arsenal player, with Eddie Nketiah set to stay with the Gunners for the rest of the season rather than go out on loan.

Nketiah found chances limited on loan at Leeds United during the first half of the season, and was recalled with a view to potentially joining Bristol City for the rest of the campaign - but such were his performances in training, Arteta has decided to keep hold of the 20-year-old striker.
