Former Ghana FA boss Ben Koufie wants Kwesi Appiah’s contract to be renewed before the 2014 World Cup.
The former Ghana defender presided over Ghana’s impressive qualification to the global showpiece, becoming the first local man to do so after two previous feats were achieved by Serbian.
There have been calls for his mandate to be renewed as his current deal nears expiration to enable him concentrate fully on the job at hand.
Experienced football administrator, Ben Koufie, is urging the FA to put the matter to rest by handing him a new deal.
“Kwesi (Appiah) has done extremely well to deserve contract extension,†he said
“There is no need to delay in renewing his mandate. In my view we should extend his contract before the World Cup.
“He needs to focus on the job and therefore we should not leave the matter of contract renewal hanging on his head.
“To qualify a country to the World Cup is no mean achievement. We need to impose confidence in him by giving him a new deal.â€
Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi leads a number of high-profile personalities who have backed calls for his mandate to be renewed.
Appiah has a 50 percent winning rate in his two-year reign as coach of the Black Stars.
The former Ghana international has won 10 times, lost seven and drawn three in the 20 matches he has presided over as coach of the Black Stars.
His current deal runs out on July 18 this year.
