2014 World Cup: Fatau Dauda puts behind dreadful run at Pirates to focus on Ghana's first choice role

Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda is desperate to put his dreadful run at club level behind him as he shifts his focus towards the retention of his starting role for the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup.

The 29-year-old struggled to hold down a regular starting role in his debut season with South African club Orlando Pirates.

Dauda who was regular for the Black Stars at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and throughout the World Cup qualifiers is facing an uphill task towards remaining the undisputed no.1 for Ghana due to his woeful club record.

The ex AshantiGold shot-stopper has now shifted his focus from his poor run at Orlando Pirates to his pursuit to be Ghana’s first choice once more again for the World Cup in Brazil.

“It has not been easy for me (at club level), but now I have a chance to fight to be in the 23-man squad that will be at the World Cup,” he said.

“The first step I have achieved which is to be here (with the Ghana National Team), now I have to push myself to play.

“I have been in major tournaments before and I have the experience so, all I will need now is just to pray, work hard and hope everything goes well for me throughout the tournament.

“I am working hard – we have a friendly against Holland and I’m looking forward to that match.”
