2019/20 Ghana Premier League: Week 11 Match Report - AshantiGold SC 1-0 Dreams FC

Published on: 19 February 2020

AshantiGold SC kept their grip at top of the league with a hard fought victory over Dreams FC at the Len Clay stadium on Wednesday.

An unfortunate own goal from central defender Abdulai Ibrahim gave the Gold and Black side a 1-0 win at the end of the game.

Assistant coach Yakubu Sheriff Mambo made two changes to the squad that held Asante Kotoko SC to a goalless draw in Kumasi last weekend.

Benedict Damlen Wobenu and Amos Kofi Nkrumah were brought in to replace Benjamin Eshun and Emmanuel Owusu respectively.

Abdul Karim Zito also made one change in his team as striker Prince Okraku came in for Issah Ibrahim in the starting lineup.

The first half was virtually balanced as both teams failed to created meaningful opportunities to open the scoring.

The visitors came close just a minute into the second half but Issah Yakubu's free-kick from long distance was parried away by goalkeeper Frank Boateng.

Wobenu's right footed shot from the edge of the box forced Dreams FC goalkeeper Godfred Amoah into making a good save in the 56th minute.

In the 80th minute, Ibrahim put the ball into his own net after he failed to clear a well taken free-kick from Eric Donkor.

Dreams FC came in stronger after conceding the goal but all their efforts went futile as the Miners held their back very compact to clinch the maximum points of the match.

AshantiGold SC will take on Achiken FC in the FA Cup next weekend whilst Dreams FC travel to Okwawu United in the same competition.
