Kenya defender Brian Mandela Onyango suffered injury in training today

Kenya's key defender Brian Mandela Onyango is likely to miss Saturday's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after pulling out of training on Wednesday because of injury.

The South Africa-based centre-back was taken off during Wednesday's training at the Moi Sports Centre in Kasarani with what looked like an ankle injury.

Medics at the training session attended to the Maritzburg United player but Kenya coach Sebastien Migne is uncertain about the fitness of the player for the match.

The Frenchman says they will be pondering an option for the defender following the injury that might affect the team's plans for the Ghana match.

“Mandela is not sure to play and it’s a huge problem for me. We need to find solution and maybe develop another option," Migne said after Wednesday's training.

"It is not easy because this is Kenya and we don’t have so many foreign based players. But we will try to find a solution and this is a good opportunity for me to see other players.

“There are other players who I have not played since I came in like Owino (David) or Masud. This is their chance to show what they can do.”

This is the second injury in the Kenya squad ahead of Saturday's game after Michael Olunga was forced out of the game because of a similar problem.

Ghana are seeking to defeat Kenya as a revenge over the Harambee Stars for beating them in Nairobi the in their previous group clash last year.

The Black Stars are also seeking to finish top of the qualifying group and only a victory can guarantee them of that top place.
