2020/21 Ghana Premier League: Week 21 Match Preview - Asante Kotoko vs Medeama

Published on: 23 April 2021

Asante Kotoko and Medeama are under no illusions as to the importance of Saturday's crunch tie as both teams look to breathe life into their Ghana Premier League title challenge.

Despite consecutive victories against Bechem United and Berekum Chelsea at their adopted Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi, the Porcupine Warriors drew goalless at Great Olympics in Accra to move up to the top of the table.

Medeama appear to have turned the corner since their 1-0 defeat in the capital to the Wonder Club, recording victories over Dreams FC and Legon Cities at home.

It's imperative both teams take maximum points as they chase the Premier League title.

Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto has made five changes to the side's last traveling party.

Goalkeeper Kwame Baah has replaced Felix Annan while midfielder Fabio Gama returns from suspension.

Midfielder Kwame Adom Frimpong and striker Naby Keita are back in the team after recovering from respective injuries.

Salifu Mudasiru  is suspended for the match against Medeama due to yellow card accumulation.

Medeama are also without midfield supremo Justice Blay for the match. The 28-year-old has been ruled out between 2-3 months with a fractured fibula.

Former Elmina Sharks midfielder Benjamin Arthur has been drafted in to replace Blay and will most likely partner Richard Boadu at the heart of the park.

Medeama coach Yaw Preko is traveling with a 20-man squad including three goalkeepers - Frank Boateng, Eric Ofori Antwi and Dacosta Owusu.

Midfielder Rashid Nortey and striker Amed Toure are back in the team after serving a one-match ban due to suspension.

This is the first competitive fixture between the two sides to take place outside Kumasi, Accra, Sekondi or Tarkwa since July 2010 when the Mauve and Yellows joined the elite League in Ghana.
