Liberty Professionals suffered a humiliating defeat at the Sogakope park on Thursday in fight against relegation in the hands of AshantiGold SC who were ruthless on the day.

The Miners came from a goal down to wallop the Scientific Soccer Lads 5-1 to hand them their very first loss in Sogakope since they moved from Dansoman.

Liberty coach Nana Andy Sinasson made two changes to the squad that lost 2-0 to Aduana Stars in the last round in Dormaa Ahenkro.

Prosper Ahiabu returned from suspension to make the starting lineup in place of Huda Issah in midfield.

Yahaya Adramani also took the place of Evans Owusu who is serving a suspension due to accumulated yellow cards from the previous matches.

AshantiGold interim head coach Thomas Duah handed young goalkeeper Dennis Votere his very first league start of the campaign replacing Kofi Mensah.

Eric Esso and David Abagna Sandan were brought back into the team for this game in place of Stephen Nyarko and Samed Mohammed respectively.

The hosts opened the scoring of the match in the 18th minute through Simon Appiah Asamoah.

Amos Kofi Nkrumah drew AshantiGold level in the 34th minute.

David Abagna Sandan with his 9th goal of the season for the Miners gave them the lead four minutes later.

AshantiGold had their advantage increased on the stroke of halftime when captain Amos Addai found the back of the net.

In-form Seth Osei increased the tally in 60th minute and defender Frank Akoto completed the routing six minutes later with a fine finish.

Liberty move back to the relegation zone following the embarrassing defeat as they lie at the 17th position on the league standings.

AshantiGold also climb up one more place on the league table to the 9th position with 40 points from 30 games.
