Karela United FC continued their scintillating form in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League after inflicting a 2-0 defeat on King Faisal on matchday 5 at the refurbished Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on Sunday.

Karela United started the game as expected by the pundits as they piled pressure on the visitors.

The Anyinase-based outfit’s incessant attacking play paid dividend at the death of the half after they got their noses in front courtesy a close range goal by dead-eye forward Taylor Diawusie.

King Faisal however returned from the break with a different approach to the game, keeping much possession but nothing to show.

Karela regained hold of the match and pushed King Faisal into their own half but couldn’t take advantage of the half chances that came their way.

Kwame Boateng was called upon by coach Stephen Abugri in the 53rd minute as Karela went in search of an insurance goal.

The hosts were given an opportunity to seal off the match after they were awarded a penalty by referee Maxwell Owusu.

But live-wire Taylor Diawusie failed to score from the spot to the despair of coach Abugri and his technical team.

However, the hosts deservedly got their second of the match in the 78th minute through substitute Kwame Boateng.

Karela United held on to the 2-0 lead to clinch the maximum points at the expense of King Faisal who are struggling to churn out results.

The victory ensures Karela United maintain their top spot with 11 points from 5 games.

King Faisal meanwhile sit 12th with 4 points from 4 outings.
