2021/22 Ghana Premier League Week 1: Match Report - Real Tamale United 1-1 Great Olympics

Published on: 31 October 2021

David Abagna’s late penalty earned Real Tamle United a point against Great Olympics at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday evening.

Returning to the Ghanaian top-flight after eight years, RTU came very close to losing their opening match of the new season.  Midfielder Raymond Oko Grippman gave Olympics the lead with a free header and they protected it until the 91st minute when they conceded a penalty.

Attacking midfielder Abagna who joined from AshantiGold converted expertly to send fans into a frenzy.

They had come expecting victory but were happy to leave with a point as Olympics gave their team a tough test.

This feels like a defeat for Olympics as their hard work was undone by Hamza Zakari's silly defending in the closing stages.

The midfielder didn't succeed in his attempt to shield the ball for a goal kick and gave away a cheap penalty.

The result sees both teams pick up their first point of the season.
