2021/22 Ghana Premier League Week 19: Match Report – Hearts of Oak 2-1 WAFA

Published on: 09 March 2022

Hearts of Oak bounced back to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday thanks to Sulley Muntari's winner against WAFA.

The former Black Stars midfielder was the hero, scoring a second-half penalty to secure Hearts of Oak a 2-1 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Muntari’s goal came via the penalty spot less than 15 minutes from time.

Kwadwo Obeng Jr gave Hearts the lead a minute after the halftime break but WAFA equalised through Derrick Mensah's superb free-kick.

However, with the game heading for a stalemate, President's Cup hero Patrick Razak was fouled in the penalty box by WAFA goalkeeper Osei Kojo Bonsu.

Muntari stepped up and scored to hand Hearts their first three points since January 30, 2022, when they beat King Faisal 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts have climbed to 6th and are 12 points behind league leaders Asante Kotoko while WAFA stay in the relegation zone.

Hearts of Oak face a tough test in their next game which is against Aduana Stars in Dormaa.

For WAFA, they will be at home against another struggling side Real Tamale United.
