2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 2 Match Report - AshantiGold 1-1 Karela United

AshantiGold SC were held at home by Karela United FC in matchday two of the Ghana Premier League on Saturday at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

The Miners came from behind to earn a point from the match with a 1-1 scoreline at the blast of the final whistle.

AshantiGold trainer Ernest Thompson Quartey made two changes to the squad that beat Eleven Wonders FC in Techiman last week.

Eric Esso who came from the bench to get the match winner for the Miners was handed his first start of the season in place of Elijah Addae.

Amos Kofi Nkrumah also replaced Seidu Dauda Yussif in the attacking third.

Karela on the other hand had their gaffer Bismark Kobi-Mensah also made two alterations to the team that drew 1-1 with Aduana Stars in the opening fixture.

Emmanuel Owusu Boakye and Emmanuel Anaful were given their debuts as they replaced Mathew Kelvin Andoh and Christopher Bonney respectively.

The home side came close to opening the scoring in the 15th when a thunderous strike from the center from midfielder Esso struck the framework.

AshantiGold came close again in the 27th minute but Yaw Annor's effort was superbly saved by goalkeeper Felix Kyei in a one-on-one situation.

Annor was teed up by Isaac Opoku Agyemang.

Karela got their noses in front in the 35th minute after Mohammed Humin Dafie's long drive shot beat goalkeeper Kofi Mensah.

AshantiGold with a quick response five minutes as they drew level through Opoku Agyemang who scored from the spot.

The second half of the encounter was very uninspiring as both teams failed to create any meaningful scoring opportunity.
