Fatawu Hamidu's then produced a brilliant cross into the box but strong defending from Bibiani Gold Stars saw the ball cleared off danger.

The Accra Lions left-back sent in another beautiful corner kick which was met by Jacob Mensah but the connection was not strong enough.

The two sides went into the break without a goal but the hosts returned more determined despite an early scare from Gold Stars forward Prince Kwabena Owusu.

The former Bechem United attacker fired a ferocious strike which was stopped by Fredrick Asare two minutes into the second half.

Accra Lions coach James Francis brought on Seidu Basit for Reedeemer Boateng as he strengthened his attack.

Right at the stroke of the hour mark, the host won a corner kick, Hagan Frimpong sent in a beautiful cross which was met by Daniel Awuni's flipping strike.

Fredrick Asante replaced Evans Eeenee and the substitute nearly added to the tally after hitting a shot from a spin with the rebound falling to Abubakar whose effort went way wide.

The visitors seized control in the dying minutes, and could have equalized with the last kick of the game after Prince Owusu's header went off the post.
