2021/22 Ghana Premier League Week 25: Match Preview - Real Tamale United vs Asante Kotoko

Published on: 17 April 2022

Asante Kotoko will be bidding for a third straight win in the Ghana Premier League when they travel to relegation-threatened Real Tamale United on Sunday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors are currently eight points clear of second-placed Bechem United at the top of the table, while RTU occupy 16th, after a string of poor results.

The northern giants were barred from using their Aliu Mahama Stadium due to hooliganism, but the ban has been lifted, and they will now host Kotoko there.

After a 10-year absence, RTU returned to the top flight this season. They started the season well, but they now face a difficult battle to avoid relegation to the Division One League with 10 games remaining.

RTU have only won one of their last five league games, contributing to their current position in the table. They must improve or they will be relegated to the second division.

RTU have not beaten Asante Kotoko since May 2008, losing six of the last nine matches between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Kotoko come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash last weekend.

They are heavy favourites and are expected to get three points, potentially extending their lead at the top to 11.

Kotoko have the best away record in the league this season, picking up 20 points from 11 matches, while RTU’s home record hasn’t been encouraging with 21 points from 12 games.
