2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 4 Match Report- Accra Lions 2-1 Bechem United

Published on: 20 November 2021

Accra Lions secured their first win of the season after beating Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday four of the Ghana Premier League.

First half goals from Christopher Acheampong and Rauf Salifu ensured the Lions roared for the first time this season, with Augustine Okrah pulling one back for the visitors.

The hosts started the game on a good very good note with back to back corner kicks in the first ten minutes, but the Hunters came into the match as the clocked ticked.

However, Accra Lions, who were on top of their game grabbed the opener after a beautiful piece of play saw Christopher Acheampong receive a pass which he cooly slotted home.

Six minutes later, the Accra based club profited from another brilliant play between forward Fredrick Akatuk and Rauf Salifu as the latter was fouled in the box. Salifu elected himself for the spot kick which he expertly converted for the second.

Bechem winger Francis Twene had to be replaced after picking up an injury in the first half.

Lions maintained the two goal advantage as they went into the break, but Bechem United returned strongly.

Just on the hour mark, Augustine Okrah connected to a corner kick to halve the deficit for the Hunters.

Accra Lions coach Rainer Kraft made three quick substitutions, bringing on Fredrick Asante, Fawzan Shawkan and Abdul Rashid Abubakar for Fredrick Akatuk, Evans Ampofo and Abass Samari.

Augustine Okrah came close with a long range effort but that did not trouble Fredrick Asare, who was outstanding for the hosts.

Lions next travel to Bibiani to face Gold Stars.
